It's time for a new course!

Thank you!

Friends,

I can't believe how busy things have been since the election! With the holidays and all of the meetings, I've hardly been home!

I did want to take a minute and share a few updates with you. Earlier this month I attended the National Federation of Women Legislators conference in Atlanta, Georgia. This was a great opportunity to meet other women from across the country that are working hard for their communities. They were very welcoming and asked me to serve as the Director for Region 7 and State Chair for Nevada. I am excited for this opportunity to create new relationships and bring great ideas back to our state.

Immediately after Thanksgiving I was back on a plane to attend the New Legislator Orientation and Training in Carson City. Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick was our host and shared her wise directions for the upcoming months, and I look forward to working with her during the session. I learned a lot in these first three days of orientation, and we still have 4 more trainings before the session begins in February!

Just yesterday our committee assignments were announced. I will be serving on Judiciary, Health and Human Services and Education. I look forward to explaining more about these committees in the coming weeks, so today I just want to briefly explain what each committee does.

  • In Judiciary we will be reviewing bills that create or change laws and punishments for crimes.
  • Health and Human Services will hear the bills that impact our communities, children and seniors. I look forward to contributing my experience in home health care.
  • I will also serve on the Education committee which will focus on schools and children, which is very near and dear to my heart with my grandson Jake starting kindergarten in a couple of years.

I am very pleased with these assignments, and I look forward to sharing the legislation we will be working on with you soon.

We also have two upcoming spaghetti dinners on Wednesday, December 12th and Sunday, December 16th from 5:30-7:30pm. If you would like to join me for a great conversation over pasta dinner, please RSVP by replying to this email or calling (702) 210-8460. Let me know which day and how many people so we can be sure to have enough pasta. If you can't make it this time, we will be having monthly get togethers throughout the session.

Every day I am reminded how blessed I am to have this opportunity, and I look forward to sharing this journey with you. Please keep in touch. I want to hear about what's going on in your neighborhoods and ways we can make our community better. This is our home, and I want to make sure your voice is heard.

Yours truly,

Michele

*******************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

I am the mother of Sheena and Savanah, grandmother of Jake, a local businesswoman who has created more than 1,000 jobs in our community, and a community leader who supports numerous organizations that protect our neighborhoods. I am running for Assembly District 4 and I know what we need to do to get Nevada back on track.

My decision to enter the Assembly District 4 race is based on a sincere desire to serve my community. I’m proud to have made Las Vegas my family’s home for more than 20 years. I raised my two daughters here and have watched them grow into strong and independent Nevada women. They attended our public schools and very soon my grandson will also. I believe a quality education is the best gift we can give our children and grandchildren, and you have my word that I will fight to increase accountability in the classroom. I believe that parents should have the ultimate say in their child’s education, and that we need to reward our best teachers.

As a Nevada business owner, I don’t just talk about job creation – I have created more than 1,000 jobs in our community. Our businesses and families are spending too much time and money dealing with taxation, regulation, and litigation. We need legislation that keeps taxes low and predictable so that business will relocate to Nevada and entrepreneurs will feel confident starting new ventures.

I believe in serving my community. I’ve volunteered thousands of hours with the Trauma Intervention Program where I have been honored to help the most amazing and courageous people as they cope with the most tragic moments of their lives. I’ve volunteered on the Metro Use of Force Board because I believe our government should be accountable on every level. I’ve had the privilege of working with our Metro SWAT team to provide safe environments for them to practice live drills to keep our neighborhoods and communities safe.

Like never before, Nevadans need to start working together as Nevadans to elect people with real world experience in creating jobs and making payroll to provide solutions to Nevada's problems. I’m a straight-talker popular or not. You can count on me to be a steady voice in the Nevada Legislature for common sense solutions, job creation, and responsible government spending.

Michele's Commitment
1. Access
I will be available to citizens at all times. I will treat my duties as a calling, not as a part-time job like many politicians.

2. Attention
I will listen to the people not the politicians.

3. Action
It takes a leader to get things done in Nevada, and I’ve been getting things done in Nevada for many years. I pledge to uphold these values and give our community the representation it deserves.

4. Accountability
I will work to ensure that government spending is transparent.
